It was forecasted to be a rainy day so we slept in, knowing that we wouldn’t be able to do much.

Thankfully it wasn’t raining in the morning when we finally headed out, we hiked to the town of Königstein, and at stopped at a cafe for some cake and coffee.

This might be one of the things I miss most about Germany: the veritable abundance of cafes with freshly baked cakes and pastries.

Having eaten a plum cake and coconut quark cake, we set off to climb to the Fortress Königstein, for which the town was named after. Translated to King’s rock, it is one of the largest fortifications in Europe and towers impressively over the town.

This folks. Is a real fortress. The kind that’s compared to Alcatraz.

Costing only 6€, we also decided to get an audioguide for 2.50€ which turned out to be a great idea since the set included some rather interesting stories.

The views were gorgeous.

We felt a few drops of rain, but thankfully it didn’t start raining until we had descended into town again to grab lunch.

Lunch was a disappointing affair since when our food came to us, the proprietress unapologetically told us no ketchup when I questioned the lack of tomato sauce on the dish I ordered: macaroni with cheese, sausage, and tomato sauce.

We bought some groceries to cook for dinner since it would be pain to get to a restaurant and back while raining and basically spent the rest of the day chilling at the hostel.
